I’ve been on a bit of a journey this past year — haven’t we all?. In one of my previous articles I talked about how 2020 wasn’t a bad year and that I don’t do new years resolutions. One of my inspirations in the past year has been a certified “brain coach” Jim Kwik and one of his latest Instagram live’s talked about creating something called a “Not to do” list. I was so intrigued by this concept. For years we’ve heard people talk about creating a “to do” list but I’d never heard of a “not to do” list. Here are my takeaways from this Instagram video:
- Stop sitting all day (keep moving)
- Stop looking at the screen late at night
- Stop looking at your phone for the first half an hour of the day
- Stop caring what other people think
- Stop being reactive (plan ahead)
- No regrets, meaning love, live, laugh and learn
- Stop comparing yourself
- The most important thing, should be the most important thing
- Stop complaining and making excuses
- Own and learn from your mistakes
- Feed your passions and dreams
- Intelligent and consistent actions
- Do the best you can with what you have
- Talk about the joys and things we are grateful for
- Complaining is energy draining
- Offer thanks for troubles we don’t ave
- 4G: Growth / Grit / Gratitude / Giving
- What you value, appreciates
- Stop overthinking
- Small simple steps
- Stop self criticism and judgement
- Stop (self doubt) and observe yourself (self improvement)
- Curiosity
- Stop saying you’re busy, busy is not the goal, don’t burn out, do the things that light you up
- Forgiveness, forgive yourself, forgive others
- Be kind to yourself and others
- Appreciate you
- Do a to be and to feel list
Many things I need to look at. That 10 minute video was a real eye opener. I’d love to have had these wonderful tips growing up, but here I am and now I know, so let’s make the most of it.
